I'm a full time math instructor putting new ideas into action each semester to support my students. My main gig is as a Professor of Mathematics at San Diego Mesa College in the San Diego Community College District, but I also teach AP Calculus BC at a small private high school. In terms of teaching, I've spent a lot of time learning about both statistics and calculus education, focusing on how to support students through those classes with varying levels of incoming preparation as a response to California's AB705 and AB1705. An adventure that I've recently turned into a blog series!
Beyond my classroom responsibilities, I'm deeply committed to professional learning, with a focus on assessment, accessibility, active learning, and course design through an equity lens. I get to bring these passions to life as a member of the interdisciplinary teaching team, Mesa’s Ongoing Success for Teaching (MOST) and through facilitating webinars, workshops, and presentations across the country. I've even been talked into giving a keynote before, though I'd much rather sit beside colleagues while we brainstorm solutions than talk at them from a stage.
In my continued efforts to increase student access to quality courses, I'm lucky enough to serve as Mesa’s Online Faculty Mentor, supporting faculty in their online teaching endeavors, and in roles in the zero textbook cost (ZTC) initiatives at my campus and district, assisting faculty in transitioning to zero textbook cost resources.
Reach out if you want to collaborate on something. I love creating spaces for educators to explore new ideas with support - regardless of modality. Check our my Presentations & Workshops to see what I've previously created. Working closely with students and faculty to improve outcomes has given me a unique perspective as a speaker, facilitator, and designer.
